I am a freelance illustrator based in North Newton, Kansas.
I attended Bethel College, here in North Newton, as well as
The American Academy of Art in Chicago. The last few years
have been spent illustrating a number of books for
Project Play, a series for children
about a group of friends who learn fun outdoor games
to play in each book. Additionally, I have illustrated
for
Highlights for Children, as well as for
several other children' s publications. I also have
done many ad illustrations for
Celtic Marketing, a Chicago-based
marketing agency, which have appeared in trade
magazines, promotional materials, websites and
products.
Since 2005, all of my professional work has been done on
the computer working with Photoshop and a Wacom Cintiq. I
use the computer for several reasons, many of which are
time management issues. I don’t have to wait for paints to
dry, clean my brushes or mix new colors. Nevertheless,
there is no magic button or command that does the work for
me. The computer will not make a poorly rendered figure
look proper, nor will it make an awkward layout look
pleasing. The computer will not make an uninspired idea
relevant, give a clichéd visual metaphor nuance, or make up
for a lack of drawing ability. It does let me play Soduku
though, and for that, I am grateful.
